1993年Adobe公司開發了Portable Document Format檔案標準，其副檔名即為PDF，PDF是使用Adobe Acrobat製作的，而Adobe Reader是僅有閱讀功能的免費軟體，2007年12月PDF已經成為ISO 32000國際標準，Adobe Reader便隨著PDF檔案的使用而普及化。（阿榮）
